Does your child breathe through their mouth? Have they been diagnosed with ADD/ADHD? Do you notice problems with bad breath or allergies? Does your child have a problem wetting the bed?
Underlying physical issues may be contributing to your child’s health and behavior issues and can affect the development of the airways and lead to Sleep-Disordered Breathing (SDB). A child who is not sleeping well is not growing well, developing well, or learning well.
There are ways to correct the underlying physical issues and start your child on the road to healthy sleep and a more positive parenting experience with your child.

Signs & Symptoms of Pediatric Sleep Disorders
Signs & Symptoms of Pediatric Sleep Disorders
ADD/ADHD
Research has shown that ADD and ADHD symptoms in children could be a sign of the child not getting enough rest and sleep at night. Their bodies are running on empty due to the lack of good sleep at night and are not able to concentrate.
Bed Wetting
Bedwetting can be caused by a compromised airway which puts the body into a fight or flight where it pulls oxygen from the urinary tract to distribute to other more important organs, making a child void or wet the bed.
Chronic Allergies
When you are not breathing correctly through your nose, it is sometimes because of inflammation in the nose causing restricted airflow. Your nose filters, sterilizes, warms and humidifies the air. When your oxygen does not have that filtration and sterilization process it can cause an increase of allergies.
Snoring
Snoring is a sign of a sleep disorder and is caused by a constricted airway behind the tongue or in the nose. This creates less flow of oxygen to the body resulting in sleep disordered breathing and poor sleep.
Restless Sleep
As we sleep at night and the brain detects a lack of oxygen the body alters position in order to position itself in a new way to open up the airway.
Daytime Drowsiness
When your body is not hitting the right levels of sleep it is unable to fully rest and heal itself. This can cause daytime drowsiness and excessive sleepiness. Your child may sleep for long periods of time, but are they getting quality sleep?
Difficulty In School
Imagine going about your day without sleeping . You too are irritable and not able to focus. Their problem might be that they are not getting proper sleep.
Mouth Breathing
Mouth breathing is improper breathing and leads to improper growth and development of our upper and lower jaws. Sleep apnea and other sleep disorders have been associated with smaller jaws. By guiding and retaining our bodies to breath through our nose we can help reverse the effects of mouth breathing and sleep disorders.
Stunted Growth
As you are growing and developing your body releases growth hormones while you sleep at night but only when the correct sleep stage is reached. When those stages of sleep are not reached or are interrupted, oxygen is not exchanged properly in the body then the amount of growth hormone that is released in kids is not as great. This could cause stunted growth and development.
Teeth Grinding
When your body realizes that there is a compromised airway it can cause your body to grind the teeth to try and position the airway in more of an open position.
